U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he plans to revive a controversial policy from his first term aimed at reducing prescription drug costs by linking payment rates for certain medications to their prices in other countries.

His earlier rule, known as the “Most Favored Nation” policy, was finalized in late 2020 but was blocked by federal courts and ultimately rescinded by President Joe Biden in 2021. The original rule would have affected Medicare payments for specific drugs administered in doctors’ offices. However, it remains unclear which drugs or payments the new directive will apply to.

In a post on Truth Social Sunday evening, Trump stated that he plans to sign an executive order Monday morning, which he claims will drastically lower drug prices.
