A new wave of sanctions against Russia is taking shape in the U.S. Congress, with a long-pending bill now backed by President Donald Trump. Trump stated on Tuesday that he is “fed up” with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s behavior.

Republican Senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, a key drafter of the bill, confirmed that Trump has given him the “green light” to move forward with the procedures. “We are moving forward,” Graham told Politico, adding that Trump told him: “It’s time to act, so we will act.”

This development could lead to the bill being brought for a vote within this month, after a prolonged period of stalemate. The renewed push for sanctions follows Trump’s public statements on Tuesday, where he expressed his frustration with Putin’s refusal to initiate peace talks with Ukraine, hinting that he is open to supporting the sanctions bill.
