U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that all trade negotiations with Canada have been terminated, following an advertisement he described as misleading, featuring former President Ronald Reagan speaking out against tariffs.
“Based on their outrageous behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA END AS OF RIGHT NOW,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Earlier this week, Ontario Premier Doug Ford confirmed that the anti-tariff advertisement had drawn Trump’s attention.
The commercial in question featured archived footage of Reagan warning that tariffs on foreign goods could lead to job losses and trade wars—a message that reportedly angered Trump, who has positioned tariffs as a key part of his economic agenda.
