U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that within two weeks he will know whether progress can be made toward ending the Russia-Ukraine war, while also hinting at possible sanctions against Moscow.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump expressed frustration over recent Russian attacks that damaged an American-owned factory operating in Ukraine.
“I’m not happy about this, and I’m not happy about anything related to that war. Over the next two weeks, we will find out which direction things will go. And I’d better be very happy,” Trump said, according to KosovaPress.
When asked what will happen after two weeks, Trump stated: “I will make a decision on what we are going to do, and it will be a very important decision. That is whether it will be massive sanctions, or massive tariffs, or both—or we will do nothing and say this is your war?”
Trump has been making efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He held several rounds of talks with both sides, including a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, and announced preparations for a possible meeting between the Ukrainian and Russian presidents.
