The U.S. capital, Washington, is preparing for the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump. Due to extremely low temperatures, the inauguration ceremony has been moved indoors to the Capitol.
Security in Washington has been heightened, and preparations for the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump are nearing completion.
On Saturday evening, Mr. Trump was at his golf club in Sterling, Virginia, where he and his wife, Melania Trump, watched a fireworks display.
The President-elect flew from Palm Beach, Florida, to Washington on an American Air Force plane on Saturday. He told U.S. television network ABC that in his inaugural speech, he would call for unity, strength, and justice.
On Sunday, Trump will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, just outside Washington.
He will also hold a meeting with his supporters in Washington.
Meanwhile, preparations for the stage inside the Capitol, where Trump’s swearing-in will take place, are nearing completion. Due to extremely cold temperatures, the inauguration ceremony has been moved indoors.
Had the ceremony been held outside on the platform constructed on the Capitol’s west wing, about 1,000 people would have been in attendance. Now, with the event moved indoors, this number will be reduced to around 600 invited guests, meaning that some attendees will not be able to participate in the ceremony.
The last time cold temperatures forced the ceremony indoors was in 1985 when Ronald Reagan was sworn in for his second term.
After the swearing-in, the president traditionally rides in his limousine along one of Washington’s main boulevards and then walks on foot, greeting the crowds until he reaches the White House. /VOA
