U.S. President Donald Trump, during his cabinet meeting on Tuesday, harshly criticized wind turbines and solar panels, called for the death penalty for murders in Washington, D.C., and denied being a dictator.
Trump opened the August meeting by highlighting, according to him, the drop in gasoline and food prices and the improvement of American manufacturing during the first months of his second term, AP reports.
He criticized environmental goals that support wind turbines and insisted that his administration “is not allowing a single wind turbine to be built.”
“They are destroying our country. They are destroying everyone,” Trump said.
“They are ugly, they don’t work, they kill your birds, they are bad for the environment,” he added.
While criticizing solar panels, he did not say he would ban them.
Later in the meeting, Trump announced he would impose the death penalty for every murder in Washington, D.C.
“We will seek the death penalty,” he declared, calling it a “very strong preventive measure.”
It is worth noting that Washington, D.C., and nearly half of U.S. states have abolished the death penalty, while studies from the Death Penalty Information Center have found no “meaningful evidence” that its use deters crime.
In the end, Trump dismissed accusations that he is a dictator.
“I am not a dictator. I just know how to stop crime,” he said.
