U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he will not impose new sanctions on Russia, emphasizing that there is a real opportunity for progress in relations between the two countries, Rks News reports.

“Because I think there’s a chance to do something, and if we do that, it could get much worse. But there might be a moment when this will happen,” Trump told reporters.

His statement came after a more than two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the two leaders discussed developments in Ukraine and the possibility of reaching a peace agreement.
