U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that a nuclear agreement with Iran is close to being finalized and has personally warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to interfere in the negotiation process, Rks News reports.
According to CNN, sources familiar with the developments confirm that Trump’s team is optimistic about reaching a deal in the upcoming meeting. The negotiations are being mediated by Oman and led by Trump’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
Trump stated that the “talks are going very well” and a possible deal “would save many lives.”
One of the most sensitive points of discussion remains whether Iran will be allowed to enrich uranium. A proposed solution involves the creation of an international consortium including countries from the Middle East and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to produce enriched uranium solely for civilian purposes.
Netanyahu, a longtime critic of agreements with Tehran, had previously supported Trump’s 2018 decision to withdraw the U.S. from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. He has voiced strong concerns over Israel’s security and the possibility of Iran developing nuclear weapons.
However, fears are growing that a potential Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities could jeopardize the progress made in the negotiations and escalate tensions in the region.
Trump concluded his statement by noting that, although he remains optimistic, “everything can change with just one phone call.”
