U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he has “almost decided” on whether to approve the transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, but wants more clarity on how Kyiv plans to use them.
“I’ve pretty much made up my mind,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, adding that before finalizing his decision, he wants to understand the intended use of the weapons.
“I think I want to find out what they’re doing with them. You know, where they’re sending them. I think I need to ask that question,” he said.
Trump emphasized that his goal is to avoid escalating the conflict, reiterating his long-held position that the Russia–Ukraine war “should never have started”, calling it the result of “bad decisions” on both sides.
“Neither side looks good in this war,” he noted, claiming that the fighting continues to cause heavy losses.
“They lost over 7,000 troops this week — from both sides combined. Every week they lose 7,000, 8,000, 5,000,” Trump said, citing battlefield casualty figures.
When asked by a reporter about the Tomahawk missile’s range, the president replied briefly:
“I’m not looking for escalation.”
