U.S. President Donald Trump has commented on the possibility of a meeting between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, calling the initiative essential to ending the conflict.
“I strongly pushed for this meeting to happen,” Trump told The Guardian, adding, “I think good things can come out of it.”
He also reiterated his call to end the violence:
“The bloodshed must stop.”
So far, only Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed his participation in the proposed talks. On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin has yet to publicly commit to attending the meeting.
