U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to spend more than $1 trillion on the military in 2026, calling it the largest defense investment in the country’s history.
Speaking before his supporters, Trump stated:
“I am committed to spending over $1 trillion on our military in 2026 — more than at any other time in our nation’s history. I hope you like it.”
With his trademark irony, he added:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you like it. It’s an astronomical amount of money.”
This statement comes at a time when national security and military strength have reemerged as central issues in U.S. political debate, especially in the run-up to the presidential elections.
Trump’s promise of a record-breaking defense budget is expected to spark extensive debate both in Washington and on the international stage.
The U.S. remains the largest financial contributor to the NATO military alliance.
