U.S. President Donald Trump is planning to organize a trilateral summit with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin to find a quick resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. White House sources confirm that the organization of this summit depends on the progress of the discussions scheduled for Monday at the White House with Zelenskyy.
European Leaders Stand with Zelenskyy
A number of high-level European leaders have confirmed they will join Zelenskyy for the meeting at the White House. They include French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. NATO chief Mark Rutte will also be in attendance.
The European leaders are reportedly attending to demonstrate to Trump that they are essential to the peace deal he is pursuing.
Context of the Meeting
This development follows the “failed summit” between Trump and Putin in Alaska, where the two leaders were unable to reach an agreement to end the war. Trump has stated his desire to bypass a ceasefire in favor of a permanent peace agreement.
