U.S. President Donald Trump is set to deliver his first address to Congress on Tuesday since returning to the White House for a second term. The speech is expected to focus on ending wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, imposing tariffs on foreign imports, and implementing government spending cuts.
Trump is likely to highlight his administration’s ongoing efforts to mediate peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing his stance against prolonged military conflicts. He previously stated, “We want peace. We are not looking for a 10-year war and political games.”
The President may also outline his approach to the Israel-Hamas war and the future of Gaza. He recently suggested transforming Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East” by developing the area and creating thousands of jobs.
Additionally, Trump is expected to justify his tariff policies, arguing that they will encourage companies to relocate production to the U.S. He may also address criticism over his administration’s cost-cutting measures, including reducing government waste and federal workforce downsizing.
Following Trump’s speech, Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin will deliver the opposition response, a traditional rebuttal to the President’s address.
