U.S. President Donald Trump met today with Syria’s interim president, Ahmad al-Sharaa — a well-known former rebel leader and one-time detainee of U.S. forces.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump issued five key demands during the closed-door meeting:
- Sign the Abraham Accords to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.
- Expel all “foreign terrorists” from Syria.
- Specifically deport “Palestinian terrorists,” as labeled by Trump.
- Assist the United States in preventing the resurgence of ISIS.
- Take full responsibility for detention centers associated with ISIS in northeastern Syria.
These conditions mark Trump’s clearest stance yet on what he expects from the new Syrian leadership.
