U.S. President Donald Trump met today with Syria’s interim president, Ahmad al-Sharaa — a well-known former rebel leader and one-time detainee of U.S. forces.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump issued five key demands during the closed-door meeting:

  1. Sign the Abraham Accords to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.
  2. Expel all “foreign terrorists” from Syria.
  3. Specifically deport “Palestinian terrorists,” as labeled by Trump.
  4. Assist the United States in preventing the resurgence of ISIS.
  5. Take full responsibility for detention centers associated with ISIS in northeastern Syria.

These conditions mark Trump’s clearest stance yet on what he expects from the new Syrian leadership.
