German politician Lars Patrick Berg has expressed optimism that the stalled Kosovo-Serbia dialogue could gain momentum under a new Donald Trump presidency. Berg believes that the ongoing geopolitical shifts, influenced by conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, have diverted international focus away from the Balkans, but Trump’s return to power could restore attention to resolving tensions between the two nations.

Berg, a former member of the European Parliament, emphasized the importance of renewed international engagement in the dialogue process, particularly from Washington and Brussels, to help Kosovo and Serbia move closer to European integration.

“Germany has long been involved in the region and remains a steadfast ally of Kosovo. It is imperative for the next German government to prioritize the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue to secure lasting peace in the Western Balkans,” Berg stated.

He also highlighted Kosovo’s aspirations to join NATO and the European Union, encouraging the country to remain steadfast in its efforts despite the internal challenges facing the EU.

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reiterated the need for Serbia to meet key conditions for progress in the dialogue, including the extradition of Milan Radoičić, who has claimed responsibility for orchestrating recent attacks, and for Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to sign the Basic Agreement.

Berg remains hopeful that Trump’s leadership could introduce a fresh dynamic to the negotiation process, bringing the region closer to stability and integration.
