The U.S. plan for Gaza, presented by President Donald Trump at a White House press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has sparked reactions within Hamas.
Senior Hamas official Mohammed Mardawi told Al Jazeera that the plan is “a text biased toward the Israeli side.”
“What was presented at the press conference regarding the plan to end the war leans toward the Israeli perspective. It aligns closely with what Netanyahu insists on to continue the fighting,” he emphasized.
At the same time, Mardawi stressed that Hamas will not issue an official response until it receives the full written plan.
“We need to receive this plan in a written and clear form before responding. The plan must reach Hamas and other Palestinian organizations,” he added.
Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official confirmed to the BBC that they had not received any proposal from Trump regarding a mediated ceasefire. The official noted, however, that Hamas remains open to reviewing any proposal that could end the conflict in Gaza, while emphasizing that any agreement must protect Palestinian interests, ensure a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and end the hostilities.
When asked about the organization’s weapons, the official said: “Resistance weapons are a red line as long as the occupation continues. The issue of weapons can only be discussed within the framework of a political solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.”
