As Israel and international mediators await an official response from Hamas regarding the latest ceasefire and hostage-release proposal, U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to offer a direct personal guarantee for his commitment to ending the conflict, RKS News reports.
According to The Times of Israel, the U.S. is pressuring Israel to finalize a ceasefire agreement before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington next week, during which he is expected to meet with Trump to discuss the Gaza situation in detail.
Israeli television Channel 12 reports that Trump is prepared to make a public declaration stating:
“Negotiations on the terms for ending the war will continue after a temporary ceasefire, and I will do everything in my power to help secure a permanent agreement.”
The current proposal reportedly includes:
- A 60-day ceasefire
- The release of 10 living hostages in two phases
- The return of the remains of 18 deceased hostages in three phases
The U.S. has pledged that both parties will refrain from resuming hostilities during negotiations. However, Israel has not agreed to completely rule out a military offensive if the talks break down.
Hamas, meanwhile, has said it is reviewing the proposal in consultation with other Palestinian factions and will issue its official response once internal discussions conclude.
