U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he plans to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “at some point”, without providing further details.
“I have a very good relationship with Kim Jong Un,” Trump said.
The statement came just before Trump hosted his South Korean counterpart, President Lee Jae-myung, at the White House. The discussions are expected to include strategies concerning North Korea.
North and South Korea have been separate countries since the end of the Korean War in 1955, with a heavily militarized border between them. North Korea remains a communist dictatorship, while South Korea is a U.S. ally and one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world.
