The first reaction from the Kremlin has arrived regarding Donald Trump’s statements, in which he said over the weekend that he was “very angry” with Vladimir Putin.
Trump expressed his anger when Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the removal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the establishment of a transitional government backed by the United Nations. Trump questioned the credibility of Zelensky, stating, “If we are in the middle of negotiations, I can tell you I was very angry, furious, when Putin started to question Zelensky’s credibility, because it just doesn’t go in the right direction, you know?”
What did Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov say?
“We are working with the American side, primarily to repair our bilateral relations, which have been severely damaged during the previous U.S. administration,” Peskov said during a daily press conference.
He added that Moscow is also “working on several areas related to the peace process in Ukraine,” but that there is no concrete information to share at this time.
“The work continues. The process is long due to its complexity. The president remains open to contacts with President Trump. A phone call can be arranged quickly if necessary,” Peskov stated.
When asked specifically by a reporter about Trump’s comments, Peskov replied: “The parts you mentioned refer to paraphrasing, not direct quotes.”
