U.S. President Donald Trump has given the militant group Hamas in Gaza a deadline of three to four days to respond to his peace plan.
At a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, Trump stated that if Hamas rejects the deal, Israel would receive “his full support to do what it needs to do.”
Trump’s plan contains 20 points, including, among other measures, the immediate release of all Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
“We are simply waiting on Hamas,” he said while addressing reporters at the White House regarding the 20-point plan.
Trump also warned that there would be “a very sad ending” if Hamas refuses to sign the agreement.
When asked what Israel’s response might look like if the deal is rejected, the U.S. president said he would leave it to Israel “to do what it has to do.”
“With Hamas, it’s very simple,” Trump said.
“We want the hostages returned immediately, and we want good behavior,” he added.
