U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that negotiations with China regarding a potential deal over the sale of TikTok will begin early next week, Gazeta Sinjali reports.

In a statement to Reuters, Trump said he expects to reach an agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping or his representatives in the coming days.

Last month, Trump extended the deadline for ByteDance—TikTok’s Chinese parent company—until September 17 to sell its U.S. operations.

A preliminary agreement that involved splitting TikTok’s operations in the U.S. and creating a new American-based company was halted, reportedly due to China’s opposition. Beijing pushed back following Trump’s threats of steep tariffs on Chinese goods.
