U.S. President Donald Trump has issued strong warnings toward Venezuela’s leadership, directly threatening the country’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, over the future political direction of Venezuela.

In an interview with The Atlantic, Trump stated that Rodríguez would face severe consequences if she fails to act in line with what he described as the “right course.”

“If she doesn’t do the right thing, she will pay a very high price—possibly even higher than that paid by Nicolás Maduro,” Trump said.

The U.S. president also spoke openly about Venezuela’s political future, explicitly not ruling out regime change.

“Regime change, or whatever you want to call it, is better than what you have now. It can’t get any worse,” Trump added.

Trump’s remarks are expected to further escalate tensions between Washington and Caracas, at a time when Venezuela’s political and economic situation remains unstable and under close scrutiny by the international community.
