US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will deploy the National Guard in Washington DC and place the city’s police under federal control.

This announcement was made during a press conference focused on tackling crime and the homelessness crisis in the US capital.

Trump emphasized his intention to provide homeless individuals with accommodation away from the city, stating,
“We will take back our capital.”

For Trump, the appearance of the city is as important as crime statistics and housing issues in Washington DC.

He claimed that the murder rate in Washington DC is higher than in some of the worst countries in the world and reported increases in thefts and car robberies.

Trump described the city as being “overrun by violent gangs, bloodthirsty criminals, drug maniacs, and homeless people.”

However, Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser rejected Trump’s claims, disputing the narrative of a crime surge in the capital.
