Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is set to receive a full pardon from former U.S. President Donald Trump today.
Blagojevich was convicted in 2011 and sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempting to sell a U.S. Senate seat in 2008. After serving eight years behind bars, Trump commuted his sentence in February 2020, allowing his early release. With this new pardon, Blagojevich will be fully cleared of all legal consequences stemming from his conviction, according to the Associated Press.
Blagojevich, an American politician of Serbian descent, recently visited Serbia and met with President Aleksandar Vučić. Local media have speculated that he may be considered for an ambassadorial role in Belgrade.
