U.S. President Donald Trump will meet next week with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping during his visit to Asia, the White House has confirmed.
The meeting, which had been uncertain due to escalating trade tensions, will take place following Trump’s participation in the APEC CEO Summit.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Trump will also visit Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea, where he will meet with respective leaders — including Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, according to Reuters.
The Trump–Xi meeting comes amid heightened U.S.–China trade frictions, intensified by Beijing’s restrictions on rare earth mineral exports. Although Trump initially threatened retaliatory measures, he has since expressed optimism about reaching a trade agreement.
