Former U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the United States does not intend to follow the United Kingdom’s example regarding the recognition of a Palestinian state. His remarks come after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signaled that the UK would recognize Palestine as a state if Israel fails to meet certain conditions.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said he had “no view” on Starmer’s decision, but described it as a “reward for Hamas,” according to CNN.

“Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are saying the same thing, and that’s fine, but that doesn’t mean I have to agree with it,” Trump commented.

The former president also touched on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, expressing emotional concern for the suffering children there.

“Those kids look very hungry… Anyone who isn’t heartless, or worse, insane, can’t say anything other than that it’s terrible to see children like that,” Trump added, referring to recent images from the conflict zone.

While Trump acknowledged the dire situation in Gaza, he made it clear that recognizing Palestinian statehood under current circumstances is not on the U.S. agenda, distancing himself from recent European positions.
