U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States is “nowhere near” making a decision on whether to deploy American troops to Iran.

In an interview with the New York Post, Trump said that no decision has been made regarding the possibility of sending U.S. forces to secure Iran’s uranium reserves.

“We haven’t made any decision about that. We’re nowhere near it,” Trump said when asked whether he would consider deploying troops to the country.

Trump also reiterated that he is “not happy” with the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of Iran following the death of Ali Khamenei.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region following the escalating conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
