Paramount, the parent company of CBS News, has agreed to pay $16 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former U.S. President Donald Trump over a controversial interview broadcast in October 2024.
According to the company, the funds will be allocated to Trump’s presidential library, and will not go directly or indirectly to Trump himself. The settlement, they noted, does not include any apology or expression of regret.
Trump had initially sued CBS for $10 billion, later raising the claim to $20 billion, alleging that the network had “deceptively edited” his 60 Minutes interview to favor the Democratic Party.
As part of the agreement, CBS also committed to a new transparency policy: future interviews with presidential candidates aired on 60 Minutes will have their full transcripts released immediately after broadcast, except in cases requiring edits for legal or national security reasons, Reuters reported.
