Charlie Kirk, one of the closest allies of U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot on Wednesday evening at the Utah Valley University campus. His current condition remains unknown.

Kirk, founder and executive director of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), played a pivotal role in Trump’s 2024 election victory by mobilizing young voters, according to CNN. Trump himself has publicly praised Kirk for his contribution, calling him essential to securing the youth vote.

During Trump’s first term, Kirk built close ties with the president and his family, even attending a White House event in May 2024 where Justice Jeanine Pirro was sworn in.

Trump has repeatedly highlighted Kirk’s role in energizing young conservatives:

“I won the youth vote with 37%. No Republican has ever done that. Charlie Kirk will tell you — TikTok helped, but Charlie helped too. He has done an amazing job,” Trump said.

The president also praised him during rallies:

“Charlie is fantastic. Don’t believe it when they say young people are all left-wing. Thanks to Charlie and his movement, that has changed.”

Following the shooting, Trump confirmed the attack and urged supporters to pray:

“We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A truly great young man. GOD BLESS HIM!”

Police have confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack.
