Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that his country is entering some of the most difficult moments in its history, as the United States increases pressure on Kyiv to make concessions to Russia.
In a 10-minute public address, Zelensky told Ukrainians that the country is at a historic crossroads and may soon face a painful choice:
“Either lose our dignity, or risk losing a key partner.”
According to him, this refers to the decision on whether to accept the 28-point peace proposal presented by the United States or face an extremely difficult winter without full support.
Zelensky stressed that Ukraine’s international partners expect a prompt response to Washington’s plan, but he vowed to uphold the country’s fundamental principles.
“I will never betray the Constitution of Ukraine. The national interest of Ukraine must always be taken into account,” Zelensky said.
