The Turkish presidential communications office has condemned a recent Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital in Gaza, calling it “an attack on freedom of the press and another war crime.” The statement came after Palestinian officials reported that the strike killed at least 20 people, including five journalists.
Burhanettin Duran, the head of the communications directorate, stated on X that Israel is “under the illusion that it can prevent the truth from being discovered through its systematic attacks on journalists.“
In its response, the Israeli military confirmed it had carried out a strike in the hospital area. It expressed “regret for any harm to uninvolved individuals” and asserted that it does not target journalists. The military also announced that an investigation into the incident had been ordered.
