Turkey has removed additional tariffs on several imports from the United States, including alcoholic beverages, automobiles, tobacco, and cosmetics, the Ministry of Trade announced.

These tariffs were originally imposed in response to U.S. duties on steel and aluminum imports in 2018, in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.

“At this stage, as a result of positive progress in negotiations with the U.S. and consultations within the framework of the WTO dispute resolution mechanism, including panel reports, the additional financial obligations previously applied to certain U.S. products have been removed,” the ministry stated.

The ministry emphasized that economic relations remain a central pillar of strategic dialogue between Ankara and Washington, with both sides aiming to reach a $100 billion bilateral trade goal.

This decision comes ahead of a key meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House later this week, following their participation in the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
