Turkey has summoned senior diplomats from Ukraine and Russia following attacks on ships navigating international waters in the Black Sea, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.

On Thursday, Ambassador Nariman Celal of Ukraine and Russian Chargé d’Affaires Aleksei Ivanov were called to the ministry to convey Turkey’s concern over the incidents, according to foreign media reports.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli stated that the attacks on the vessels “Kairos” and “Virat” occurred within Turkey’s exclusive economic zone, endangering navigation, lives, property, and environmental safety.

Turkey has also indicated that it is engaging in talks with the parties involved to prevent the escalation of the Ukraine conflict into the Black Sea and to protect its economic interests.
