Turkey is negotiating with TerraPower, a nuclear technology company founded by Bill Gates, to acquire small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), according to Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
Bayraktar stated that Turkey plans to develop small modular nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of at least 5,000 megawatts by 2050.
The minister emphasized that the move is part of Turkey’s broader strategy to diversify and secure its energy supply, reducing dependence on conventional sources.
“We are in discussions with TerraPower regarding modular small nuclear power plants. Our plan is to establish SMRs with a total capacity of at least 5,000 megawatts by 2050,” Bayraktar said.
