Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called on Turkey to play a key role in mediating peace in Ukraine during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara.

“I have clearly proposed to President Erdoğan that Turkey should take the greatest possible responsibility for the peace process that guarantees stability and security in the entire region,” Tusk stated during a joint press conference with the Turkish leader.

Erdoğan welcomed Ukraine’s decision to accept a temporary ceasefire proposal as a “positive step” and urged Russia to reciprocate.

“If the latest developments lead Russia and Ukraine back to the negotiating table, we are ready to provide all forms of support, including direct talks,” Erdoğan added.

Both Turkey and Poland are NATO members, and Ankara has maintained ties with both Kyiv and Moscow since the beginning of the war.
