The Mayor of Lipjan, Imri Ahmeti, has stated that the flooding situation in the municipality significantly worsened on Saturday, despite the fact that no major difficulties had been recorded in previous days.

Speaking to Ekonomia Online, Ahmeti confirmed that the most serious damage has been reported to two bridges—one located in the village of Sllamushë and the other in Upper Gadime (Gadime e Epërme)—while additional challenges have been observed in several other localities.

Roads Passable but With Major Difficulties

According to the mayor, all roads remain open, but traffic is moving with considerable difficulty, particularly on regional roads. The most affected routes include:

  • The Prishtina Mall roundabout toward Ferizaj
  • The Lipjan–Magbule road leading toward the airport

“Until today we had no major difficulties. Today, extensive flooding has appeared across many neighborhoods and villages. Several damages have occurred, the most significant being on two bridges—one in Sllamushë and the other in Upper Gadime,” Ahmeti said.

Emergency Response and Field Operations

Ahmeti emphasized that municipal teams are actively deployed in the field, working in coordination with firefighters, the local police station, and private companies. Efforts are focused on opening new drainage channels to redirect water flow and reduce further damage.

Request to the Ministry of Infrastructure

The Mayor also confirmed that the Municipality of Lipjan has formally requested intervention from the Ministry of Infrastructure, urging the ministry to clear road shoulders and open drainage channels on roads under its management and ownership.

“We have addressed the Ministry of Infrastructure to clean the road corridors and open drainage channels, as these roads are both managed and owned by the ministry. In some local areas, we intervened ourselves during the summer,” Ahmeti said.

Damage Assessment Teams Established

To ensure an accurate evaluation of losses, three municipal assessment teams have been established:

  • Infrastructure damage team
  • Household economic damage team
  • Agricultural damage team

These teams are already operational, and detailed assessments will be conducted once rainfall stops and weather conditions stabilize.

Call for Caution

Mayor Ahmeti concluded by urging citizens to remain cautious and to maintain constant communication with municipal emergency services as the situation continues to evolve.
