The Public Health Institute of North Macedonia confirmed today the first two cases of monkeypox in the country. According to the announcement, the patients were tested at the Dermatology Clinic, where in addition to monkeypox, tests for HIV, syphilis, and herpes were also conducted, reports Rks News.
Laboratory analyses were performed using three different methods and resulted positive for monkeypox. Immediately after confirmation, all relevant institutions were informed, including the Ministry of Health, the Dermatology Clinic, and the Infectious Diseases Clinic.
Epidemiologists from the Institute have started epidemiological investigations to gather detailed information and prevent further spread of the virus. Patients have been instructed to continue monitoring and treatment at the Infectious Diseases Clinic.
Health authorities emphasize that there is no reason for panic, as all institutions are acting efficiently to control the situation.
