Two Citizens’ Initiatives and Eight Independent Candidates Certified for Kosovo Local Elections

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has officially certified two citizens’ initiatives and eight independent candidates to participate in the October 12 local elections.

According to the CEC announcement, a total of 64 candidates represent these political entities — five running for mayor and 59 for municipal assembly seats.

The application period for political entities seeking certification ends on August 13 at 23:59.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the CEC also decided on:

  • Training package sets for election staff.
  • Voting and counting procedures at polling stations.
  • Guidelines for receiving and delivering election materials to Municipal Counting Centers.
  • Approval of requests for postal voting services from outside Kosovo.
  • Approval of requests for election materials for out-of-country voting.
  • Coordination of official visits with postal representatives regarding the opening of postal boxes in Berlin and Bern.
