In the ongoing trial for the armed attack in Banjskë, Zvečan municipality, two of the accused, Blagoje Spasojević and Vladimir Tolić, have opted to remain silent and not provide a defense at this stage, while the third defendant, Dušan Maksimović, will present his defense in a future hearing.
The decisions were announced during a court session, where the defense outlined the positions of the accused.
Key points from the hearing:
- Blagoje Spasojević, through his lawyer Ljubomir Pantović, confirmed that he will exercise his legal right to remain silent. Spasojević himself addressed the court, stating: “Honorable court, as my lawyer said, I will exercise my right and defend myself in silence.”
- Vladimir Tolić, represented by Miloš Delević, also chose to remain silent after consulting with his lawyer. Tolić personally confirmed his decision.
- Dušan Maksimović, represented by Jovana Filipović, requested to postpone his defense to review case materials and video recordings before making a statement. Maksimović emphasized the need to be fully informed to properly present his defense.
Court ruling:
Presiding judge Ngadhnjim Arni approved the proposal to postpone Maksimović’s defense, noting that extended consultations with his lawyer are necessary to ensure a complete and informed defense.
This session highlights the defendants’ legal rights in the context of a high-profile case related to the Serb terrorist attack in Banjskë on September 24, 2023, which resulted in the death of Rreshter Afrim Bunjaku and injuries to other police officers.
