Russian President Vladimir Putin described his nearly two-hour phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump as “informative and sincere,” according to a report by the BBC, as cited by Rks News.

“It was very informative and quite sincere, and very useful in this regard. First of all, I thanked the U.S. President for supporting the resumption of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine for a potential peace agreement. The U.S. President expressed his position in favor of a ceasefire. On my part, I reiterated that Russia favors a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian crisis. We simply need to determine the most effective ways to move forward toward peace,” Putin stated, according to Russian state media.

He added that Russia is ready to work with Ukraine on a peace agreement through a joint memorandum.

“Russia will offer and is prepared to work with Ukraine on a memorandum for a possible future peace agreement,” he emphasized.

According to Putin, the potential agreement could include a temporary ceasefire.

“Even a possible ceasefire for a specific period of time, if the relevant agreement is reached,” he said.

He also noted that the resumption of talks in Istanbul is a positive sign, suggesting that the parties might be on the right path.

“The resumption of negotiations in Istanbul gives reason to believe that ‘we are on the right track,’” he declared.
