Two of President Aleksandar Vucic’s closest associates have been given a mission to carry out. Milovan Drecun, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Internal Affairs, and Miroslav Bjegović, the security advisor to the Prime Minister of Serbia, have launched a new propaganda campaign against Kosovo.
Both of them have raised an alarm, claiming that Kosovo is preparing for intelligence activities both within and beyond the border, implicitly referring to the use of drones in the border area with Serbia.
This campaign started after the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) took control of the former Dumosh airport near Podujevo. Authorities in Pristina state that this is a strategic site that will increase the defense and security of the Republic of Kosovo.
As reported by the regime’s Kurir in Belgrade, “the new military base near the border line and the further plans to deploy armed forces are causing great concern, as they represent an additional threat to the already fragile security situation.”
This has sparked a propaganda alarm in Serbia.
Thus, Milovan Drecun, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Internal Affairs, has constructed a scenario of what could happen next.
“This base is significant because it opens the way to northern Kosovo. Additionally, a base is being built in the Llukar area near Pristina, and a new base is planned just 1,000 meters from the border. The ultimate goal of Albin Kurti is to deploy special police and military units near the border,” he said to RTS.
He also propagated the idea that unmanned drones “Bayraktar” could be deployed at the Dumosh airport for intelligence activities across and beyond the border.
Meanwhile, Miroslav Bjegović, the security advisor to the Prime Minister of Serbia, told Kurir that the takeover of the Dumosh airport is a classic example of the security calculations made by the NATO pact during the Cold War.
“This allows us to recognize the role of the mentor. In this case, the interest in bringing the border closer and placing a well-equipped unit in northern Kosovo supported by helicopters and Bayraktar drones was recognized. It is the role of the Serbian national security system to evaluate if and when these units will be used for Kurti’s ultimate purpose in northern Kosovo, but also for other purposes,” he said.
