According to the Lithuanian Armed Forces, two Russian military aircraft — a Su-30 fighter jet and an Il-78 refueling tanker — violated Lithuania’s sovereign airspace for approximately 18 seconds on Thursday.

The aircraft entered from the Kaliningrad region, apparently conducting an aerial refueling training mission. In response, Spanish Eurofighter Typhoon jets from NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission were scrambled and are now patrolling the area, Reuters reports.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda condemned the incident, calling it “a blatant violation of international law and Lithuania’s territorial integrity.”

This event comes amid growing tension and increased Russian flight activity near NATO borders in the Baltic region, raising further concerns about regional security and deterrence.
