Two trucks were burned in the early hours of Tuesday in North Mitrovica, while the fire from them also damaged a passenger car.
The fire was probably intentional, the deputy director of the Kosovo Police for the Northern Region, Veton Elshani, told Radio Free Europe.
He gave no other details about the case, except that there are no suspects and that the investigation is ongoing.
According to REL, the owners of the trucks are Albanians, who have wholesale businesses in the north of Mitrovica, while the damaged passenger vehicle is owned by a Serb, D.P.
The fire that engulfed the trucks was preceded by three explosions.
In the north of Kosovo – an area inhabited by a majority of Serbs – there have been several similar incidents this year.
At the beginning of June, two cars were burned in the same place where the last trucks were also burned, while at the beginning of April, a member of the border police of Kosovo also had his car burned.
At the beginning of March, a restaurant owned by Natasha Tomaniq, former deputy mayor of the Municipality of Zveçan, also burned down.
She and local authorities have said that it is suspected that the fire was caused intentionally.
At the end of March, meanwhile, a building owned by Nenad Radosavlevic, former director of the Administration for Sports, Youth and Culture in the Municipality of Leposaviq, was burned down.
Radosavlević told REL at the time that he believed the motive for the arson was political in nature.
During 2023 and at the end of 2022, when the re-registration of vehicles with Kosovo license plates was in the process in the north, several vehicles with RKS (Republic of Kosovo) license plates were burned in that area.
