The United Nations Security Council convened to discuss the situation in Kosovo, as members reviewed the latest report prepared by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
In addition to assessing the work of EULEX, the session also addressed the status of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), reports Rks News.
The United States called for the closure of UNMIK, stating that the mission has fulfilled its purpose and is no longer necessary.
According to the U.S. delegation, UNMIK continues to consume substantial resources despite having long completed its mandate and no longer having a meaningful impact in Kosovo.
This position was echoed by Slovenia’s representative, who agreed that UNMIK no longer performs its original functions and that the mission’s continuation is unnecessary.
