Washington, D.C. / Brussels – The United States has delivered its first batch of Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression, but the cost will be borne by European partners, according to reports from Blick and Bild, relayed by Klan Kosova.
Although initial resistance to arming Ukraine came from former U.S. President Donald Trump, the current arrangement involves supplying the advanced weaponry through NATO rather than direct bilateral delivery to Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday evening, Trump confirmed the missiles have already been shipped. “The first Patriot missiles have already been delivered,” he stated. Each missile is estimated to cost approximately $4 million.
According to the former president, the financial responsibility for the weapons will rest with Europe. “These will come from Germany and be purchased via Germany. In all cases, the United States will receive full payment. NATO and the European Union will cover the costs – either directly or through individual EU member states,” Trump said.
This military assistance comes as part of a broader geopolitical strategy, with Trump warning Moscow that failure to pursue a peace deal within 50 days could result in the United States imposing a 100% tariff on Russian goods.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin appears to be ignoring that deadline, signaling that peace negotiations remain unlikely in the near future.
The move underlines Washington’s ongoing military and diplomatic support for Ukraine, while also reinforcing the transatlantic alliance’s unity in confronting Russian aggression.
