The Democratic Action Party (PVD) has published a proposed law by U.S. Congressman Keith Self, approved by the House Foreign Affairs Committee, aimed at addressing discrimination against Albanians in the Preševo Valley by Serbia.
The legislation calls on the U.S. Secretary of State to prepare a report within 180 days examining issues such as:
- Deactivation of addresses,
- Restrictions on the use of the Albanian language,
- Lack of proportional representation in public institutions, and
- Unequal allocation of funds to municipalities with an Albanian majority.
The report will be submitted in an unclassified format, with the possibility of classified annexes, ensuring transparency while protecting sensitive information.
This initiative reflects continued U.S. engagement in protecting minority rights in the Balkans and increasing pressure on Belgrade to ensure equality for its Albanian population.
