The United States Department of State has responded to inquiries from Euronews Albania journalist Thimi Samarxhiu regarding a recent warning issued by the U.S. Embassy in Tirana.

The embassy had cautioned that groups linked to Iran could potentially target Americans in Albania.

In its response, the State Department emphasized that the Trump administration prioritizes the safety and protection of U.S. citizens above all else. Officials noted that such alerts are intended to help Americans make proactive and informed decisions regarding their personal security while abroad.

“Americans living and traveling overseas rely on our information to make decisions that directly affect their safety,” the department stated.

The statement further explained that U.S. embassies and consulates issue alerts through the Safe Traveler Alert Program (STEP), including short-term warnings designed to address immediate threats or developments.

In addition, the State Department publishes Travel Advisories for all countries, offering broader and more comprehensive assessments of safety conditions.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Embassy in Tirana issued a security alert warning that Iran-linked groups could target individuals and entities associated with the United States, as well as Iranian opposition members residing in Albania.

According to the embassy, potential targets could also include public and commonly frequented locations such as tourist areas, shopping centers, hotels, clubs, and restaurants.
