U.S. President Donald Trump has commented on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza during a media statement in Scotland, ahead of a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

When asked whether Israel should do more to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, Trump responded that the U.S. had already provided $60 million in food and relief assistance, but added that “nobody acknowledged it” and that “at least someone should thank us” for America’s efforts.

Trump also addressed the issue of Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza, noting his meetings with the families of victims who are demanding the return of their loved ones’ remains.

He confirmed that he had discussed the situation in the region with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, highlighting Iran as one of the key topics. Trump stated that the U.S. will provide additional aid to Gaza but urged other countries to take responsibility as well, calling the crisis a “global problem.”

Asked about disturbing images of starving children in Gaza, Trump described them as “horrific,” adding that “the whole place is a mess” and people are “stealing everything.”

Regarding future steps, Trump said, “Israel will have to make a decision,” and added: “I know what I would do, but I don’t think it’s appropriate to say it.”

He concluded by confirming an upcoming meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss a range of issues, including Israel and a new U.S.-U.K. trade agreement.
