U.S. Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, announced on Monday in Kyiv a new arms assistance package worth $400 million for Ukraine.
This was confirmed during a visit in a show of solidarity just two weeks before the U.S. presidential elections, which are raising uncertainties about the future of Western support.
Secretary Austin’s trip, his fourth and possibly final visit as head of the Pentagon during President Joe Biden’s administration, focused on U.S. efforts to help Kyiv strengthen its defenses as Russian forces gradually and steadily gain ground in eastern Ukraine.
