U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the United States had supplied weapons to Ukrainian authorities even before the war began.
He shared this information in an interview with The New York Times.
“If you look at the development of the conflict, you’ll see that because we anticipated what would happen, we were able to ensure that not only we and our allies were prepared, but that Ukraine was prepared. In September and again in December, we quietly sent a large quantity of weapons to Ukraine so that they had what they needed to defend themselves,” Blinken said.
He specifically highlighted the importance of deliveries such as Stinger and Javelin missile systems, which, according to him, were critical in preventing Russian forces from capturing Kyiv, defeating Ukraine, and erasing it from the map.
“These weapons allowed Ukraine not only to defend itself but also to push back Russian forces,” Blinken added.
Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, causing immense damage to both human lives and infrastructure. Elected President Donald Trump has pledged to do everything in his power to end the war immediately after his inauguration on January 20.
